Aimedee Gunnink

(Dance: Hip Hop)

Dance is a crucial part of my life. I have grown up in both the street dance scene and in structured dance classes.  Experienced in ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop and Krump, I have trained in all disciplines and am currently studying dance at the University of Calgary. My plan for studying dance is to apply the knowledge into the street dance scene in Calgary to create more focused, passionate and deliberate dancers. I am a founding (and youngest) member of Empirical Freedom Krump (Calgary’s first and only Krump group) and a member of the urban dance group Mpact. Although I enjoy all of the styles I have trained in, hip-hop and Krump are in my heart. I’ve been dancing hip-hop since I was 8 years old and I’ve been in love with it ever since. My goal is to spark the love of dance in my students, get them active, and educate them with the real purpose of hip-hop culture; self-expression, respect and fun!

(Dance: Tap, Ballet, Jazz)

I have been dancing since the age of four and I love to share my passion of dance with everyone I can!  I am currently attending the University of Calgary, working on my double degree with a BA in Dance and a BSc in Psychology. Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, I trained in the Intensive Training Program at Halifax Dance. In Halifax I performed as Emily, the Rag Doll in Symphony Nova Scotia’s The Nutcracker and was a member of The YOung COmpany of Halifax Dance from 2011 to 2013. Since moving to Calgary I have performed in Dance Montage and Dance@Noon at the University of Calgary as part of their 2013-2014 season.

I have enjoyed teaching dance students of all ages, and at a number of schools, including Halifax Dance and Urban Dance Connect and have also assisted with Inclusive Movement special needs dance classes. I look forward to continuing to work with the great young dancers at Music and Play this year!

(Dance: Ballet)

I began dancing at the age of three and I am trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, and hip hop, as well as acro – but my main focus is on ballet. I have trained at various studios throughout central Alberta both recreationally and competitively. My ballet training has included advanced ballet technique (RAD) in Red Deer along with classes at the School of Alberta Ballet to hone my ballet vocabulary and technique. I have had the pleasure of teaching ballet and jazz and have had numerous choreography and teaching opportunities within my high school dance team. I am currently studying at the University of Calgary, pursuing my Bachelor of Science with a major in biological anthropology and am hoping to add on a minor in dance in the next year. I enjoy fostering a love and appreciation of the beauty of dance and enjoy sharing this passion with my students as well as helping them to reach their full potential!

(Dance: Jazz, Contemporary, Creative Dance Ens; Theatre Arts: Musical Theatre, ShowChoir)

I was born in British Columbia, grew up in Alberta and have been dancing since I was 4. I was always able to find a reason to dance and a way to perform, whether it was at my dance studio, putting together a routine at home for my family, or in the many theatrical shows while in school. In my second year of high school I joined Calaway Park’s ‘Calaway Live’ cast and 2015 marked my ninth and final season performing with the Park. High school was spent putting on show after show (15 productions in total) and after graduating and taking a year off, I moved to Toronto, Ont. to attend George Brown College’s Dance Performance Program. Following this I moved to Victoria, BC. and received triple-threat training from the Canadian College of Performing Arts. CCPA was essential to developing my artistry and helped me discover the deepest reasons of why I love all things theatre! I have also trained with the School of Alberta Ballet, Canada’s National Ballet School, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (Professional Training Program), and Company of Rogues Acting Studio.

I’m so glad and lucky that my travels have given me so many different ways to look at dance, theatre and the performing arts and I’m grateful for how much it has helped build my passion for what I do. I can’t wait to share my love for the arts with the students of Music and Play.
