Ashley Soles

(Theatre Arts: Musical Theatre, ShowChoir; Dance: Jazz)

I was born in British Columbia, grew up in Alberta and have been dancing since I was 4. I was always able to find a reason to dance and a way to perform, whether it was at my dance studio, putting together a routine at home for my family, or in the many theatrical shows while in school. In my second year of high school I joined Calaway Park’s ‘Calaway Live’ cast and 2015 marked my ninth and final season performing with the Park. High school was spent putting on show after show (15 productions in total) and after graduating and taking a year off, I moved to Toronto, Ont. to attend George Brown College’s Dance Performance Program. Following this I moved to Victoria, BC. and received triple-threat training from the Canadian College of Performing Arts. CCPA was essential to developing my artistry and helped me discover the deepest reasons of why I love all things theatre! I have also trained with the School of Alberta Ballet, Canada’s National Ballet School, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (Professional Training Program), and Company of Rogues Acting Studio.

I’m so glad and lucky that my travels have given me so many different ways to look at dance, theatre and the performing arts and I’m grateful for how much it has helped build my passion for what I do. I can’t wait to share my love for the arts with the students of Music and Play.

Dennis Dubbin

Private Vocal and Performance Coach

Throughout his career, Dennis has put his versatility to the test in many endeavours. As a young man, Dennis toured as a key performer in his family’s high energy musical variety show that landed in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. In Canada, the Dubbins were heard on radio jingles, seen on television and were a hit on stage at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games.

Soon after, Dennis found himself as part of the Canadian touring company of Les Misérables. His first mega-musical, staged in Toronto, was Miss Saigon in 1994, which was quickly followed by another, when Dennis was hand-picked by Pete Townsend to appear in The Who’s, Tommy. After lighting up the stage in Toronto, Dennis was asked to join the German production of Miss Saigon – where he became the first Caucasian actor to play the role of John. Following, Dennis went on play the lead role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables (in Germany) along with shows including Man of La Mancha, Passion, Crazy for You, Evita, Grease and I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change.

As a professional performer, Dennis has had the pleasure of living out his life both on stage and around the world. Having now returned to Calgary, he looks forward to impacting artists young and old within our city and inspiring and challenging students at Music and Play.

Mr. Dubbin started singing at 10 years old, was working professionally by the age of 17 and has studied in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, and Germany.

Dennis utilizes the ‘speech-level singing’ method. This technique was originally developed by Mr. Seth Riggs, who works with Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, and Madonna, and emphasizes a mostly inactive — or ‘out of the way’—larynx. More importantly, Dennis works with his students in a way that builds on their ‘natural talent’ without imposing complicated technique.

Coaching sessions with Dennis can take you from warm-up, to natural technique, to song application, to performance.  Coaching sessions with Dennis are designed for students aged 10 – Adult and may be customized for beginner to Advanced students. Dennis specializes in the following:

  • Physical & Vocal Warm-Up Coaching
  • Song interpretation/Acting through the Song
  • Repertoire Building/Song Book Preparation
  • Audition Prep for Musical Theatre

Note: Private Coaching with Dennis Dubbin start at $40/half-hour.

Darryl Lindenbach

(Co-Founder, Director: Theatre Arts, Artistic Producer: Imagine Performing Arts)

As an arts entrepreneur, management consultant and community builder, I’ve had the pleasure of creating and leading arts organizations across Western Canada over the past 25 years. I spent the majority of my early career as a theatre director, designer and artistic director/producer focusing on multi-disciplinary & musical theatre creation – founding three arts organizations, three performing arts schools directing/designing over 60 productions – and I still come back for more!  The second half of my career has focused on helping companies in the corporate, government, church and education sectors meet the goals and dreams they have for their organizations. Music and Play is the culmination of my life’s work and loves – providing artists and audiences, of all ages, the opportunity to experience and explore all that the arts has to offer.
